Rest Stop

music and lyrics by Mark Brut

Been on the road about nine hours
500 miles give or take
My eyes are getting heavy
Having trouble staying awake
The sign appears on the horizon
Rest stop two miles ahead
I decide to stop and grab some coffee
Take a piss and clear my head

There is a car parked there beside me
Late model Ford with Illinois plates
Two men inside looking right at me
Wondering about each other just the same
Walk inside and glance at the map
Still got a long way to go
Old man inside, mopping up the bathroom
He痴 seen it all I知 sure

Never know what you値l find
At the rest stop

Two men in a stall snorting some coke
While a man and his wife walk their dog
Families in tow, heading down to Florida
While the drug dealers bringing it up north
I try to keep my head down
Try to keep to myself
You can read the lives in another痴 eyes
As they can read right through you

Never know what you値l find
At the rest stop

I decide to keep driving for a little while
As the sun sets in my rearview mirror
When my mind gets tired, another hundred miles
There値l be another rest stop or two
There値l be another rest stop or two

(alternate verse)
Lines of trucks parked side by side
Some ending, some beginning their day
Little boy signals to the driver to blow his horn
While the trucker smiles and zips up his pants
